Welcome to Tampa Bay Veterinarians

At Tampa Bay Veterinarians, your pet’s health is our top priority. Founded in 2005 by Dr. Emily Rodriguez, a Tampa native with a lifelong passion for animal welfare, our clinic has become a cornerstone of the Tampa Bay Pet Healthcare Services community. Dr. Rodriguez was inspired by her childhood experiences on her family’s farm and sought to create a place where pets could receive the same love and care she had always given to her own animals. Our vision is to enhance the lives of pets and their owners by providing comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each pet’s unique needs. We pride ourselves on our deep connection with the Tampa Bay community, supporting local pet adoption events and partnering with nearby shelters to ensure every pet has the opportunity for a healthy life.

FAQ

The Most Questions We Had

How often should my pet have a wellness exam?

For most healthy adult pets, a comprehensive physical examination is recommended once a year. However, for puppies and kittens, and for senior pets (typically those 7 years and older), we recommend more frequent visits—often every six months—to monitor for early signs of age-related disease.

What types of services do you offer?

We offer a full range of medical services, including preventative wellness care, core and lifestyle vaccinations, general and advanced surgery, comprehensive dental cleanings, on-site diagnostics (such as blood work, X-rays, and ultrasound), microchipping, and nutritional counseling.

What should I do if my pet has a medical emergency after hours?

If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency outside of our regular business hours, please contact the nearest 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital in the Tampa Bay area immediately. We work closely with several local emergency centers and will transfer all necessary medical records as soon as possible.

Do I need to make an appointment for my pet?

Yes, appointments are required for all routine wellness visits, sick patient exams, and surgical procedures. This ensures we dedicate enough time to provide the highest quality of care. If your pet has an urgent but non-life-threatening concern, please call ahead and we will do our best to fit you into the schedule.

Why is routine dental care so important for my pet?

Dental disease is the most common disease in dogs and cats over the age of three. Beyond bad breath, it can lead to severe oral pain, tooth loss, and systemic health issues like heart, liver, and kidney disease. We recommend regular dental exams and professional cleaning under anesthesia to maintain your pet’s long-term health.

At what age should I have my pet spayed or neutered?

We generally recommend spaying or neutering your pet around six months of age. However, the optimal timing can vary based on your pet’s breed, size, and lifestyle. We will discuss the best, individualized recommendation for your pet during one of their initial wellness visits.

What forms of payment do you accept, and do you work with pet insurance?

We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and cash. We also accept third-party payment options such as CareCredit. While we do not process pet insurance claims directly, we are happy to provide you with all the necessary documentation for quick reimbursement from your insurance provider.

When should I bring my pet in if I notice a change in their behavior?

Any sudden change in behavior—such as lethargy, increased thirst, appetite change, aggressiveness, or inappropriate urination—can be a symptom of an underlying medical issue, especially since pets often hide pain. We recommend calling us immediately to schedule an exam to investigate the cause and start treatment as soon as possible.
